ESCAPADES! HISTORY - Book 11
Melchora Aquino - The Mother of the Philippine Revolution

ESCAPADES History takes a closer look at the remarkable life of Melchora Aquino, better known as Tandang Sora, one of the most enduring figures of the Philippine Revolution.
Born in 1812, Aquino lived an ordinary life as a mother and respected member of her community in Banlat. But when the Revolution erupted in 1896, she opened her home to Katipuneros, provided food and shelter, and cared for wounded revolutionaries. Her courage eventually led to her arrest and deportation to Guam.
This issue follows her journey from her early years and family life to her involvement with the Katipunan, her connection with the revolutionary movement, her arrest and exile, her return to the Philippines, and the legacy she left behind.
More than a story of revolution, this is the story of a woman who demonstrated that courage can take many forms. Without carrying a weapon or commanding an army, Tandang Sora became an important symbol of compassion, sacrifice, and patriotism.
